    Commands

Anything in < > is a slot you fill in — you type cd projects, not cd <folder>. [ ] means optional. Every real command's --help is written this way.

pwdWhere am I? Prints the folder you're standing in.Print the absolute path of the shell's current working directory.
lsWhat's in here? Lists the contents.List the entries of a directory — the working directory when no path is given.
ls [-a]The flag is optional. -a also shows hidden files, like .git.-a includes entries whose names begin with a dot, which ls omits by default.
cd <folder>Go into a folder.Change the shell's working directory to the named directory.
cd ..Go up one level... is the entry every directory holds for its parent.
cd ~Go home, from anywhere.~ is expanded by the shell to the path in $HOME.
cat <file>Print a file to the screen.Concatenate the named files and write them to standard output.
mkdir <name>Make a new folder.Create a directory with the given name; fails if the name already exists.
touch <name>Make a new empty file.Update a file's access and modification times, creating an empty file if none exists.
clearWipe the screen. Nothing is deleted.Clear the visible terminal screen. Affects the display only, not the filesystem.
